New Bansuri Tutorial!! In Raag Yaman!!

Showing 3 basic parts of Alap

  1. Alap:
This is the initial, slow, and unmetered (non-rhythmic) section where the notes of the raga are introduced and explored. It’s often unaccompanied, except for the drone of the tanpura.
  2. Jor:
As the tempo increases, a steady pulse or rhythmic movement is introduced, marking the transition to the “jor” section. It’s a faster section than the alap, but still relatively slow compared to jhala.
  3. Jhala:
This is the final, fast, and rhythmic section where the tempo is at its peak, and the rhythmic element takes precedence over the melodic. It’s characterized by a rapid and intricate rhythmic pattern, often with a climax or “nomtom”.
